The first Part Opener clearly announces the book's striking
style: bold use of sans serif type and the palette of black with bright gold. This
"Zettl gold" (PMS 115) is an unusual choice for a textbook
color. Traditionally, the range of usable colors is limited to those that are bright
enough to contrast with black yet dark enough to read as text. In this book, however,
color is used always to highlight, never for text.
